Enugu fumigates city against Coronavirus


The Enugu State government has commenced fumigation of cities across Enugu Metropolis.

This is in line with the directives of the Enugu State Governor, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as an urgent effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.

Briefing newsmen on the initiative, the Chief Fire Officer of the Enugu State Fire Service, Engr Okwudiri Ohaa, noted that major markets in the city will be fumigated before they are reopened. He confirmed that the State Fire Service has commenced fumigation from Ogbete Main Market through Polo Shopping Mall, GRA to Old Artisan Market, Ogui.

He further disclosed that the fumigation train will move to Obiagu axis of the metropolis after which it will go down to Nsukka.

Engr Ohaa also noted that they will use the opportunity to further enlighten the people about the deadly Coronavirus and urged people of Enugu not to panic as the fumigant they are using is mild and non-toxic to health. He advised the people of Enugu State to adhere to the stay at home order while abiding by all safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the State.

Notably, Enugu State is among the 13 states in Nigeria with Confimed Coronavirus cases. The State has on 27th March, 2020 recorded 2 cases of coronavirus infection with no death, recovery or new confirmed cases.
