Breaking: FG suspends 2020 WAEC Examination indefinitely, stops School reopening

The Federal Government has reversed the earlier decision of conducting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination scheduled to commence from August 2020.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba in Abuja during a Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 press briefing on Monday disclosed that the examination would commence on the 4th of August 2020 and end on the 5th of September 2020.

However, the Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu on Wednesday after this week's virtual Federal  Executive Council (FEC) meeting disclosed to State House correspondents that the earlier scheduled WAEC Examination would not be held.

Mallam Adamu added that there is no fixed date for school resumption against speculation by the public that schools in Nigeria would soon commence activities.

The Minister directed that the West African Examination Council should reschedule the 2020 WAEC Examination pending when it's considerably safe for the school children to partake in the examination as Nigeria continues to battle COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Federal Government had earlier urged parents to consider the safety of their Children before agitating for school reopening as COVID-19 Pandemic is still a challenge facing every Nigerian.
