COVID-19 Explosion: Enugu records one new case as Total Confirmed case nears 4,000

Enugu State has recorded another new case of Coronavirus infection. This is the tenth (10) Confirmed case and eighth (8) active case in the State since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the State.

A release from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) noted that as at 8th May, 386 New cases were reported in Nigeria which has rocketed the total Confirmed Cases in the country to 3,912.

It furthered that 176 new cases were reported in Lagos, 65 in Kano, 31 in Katsina, 20 in FCT, 17 in Borno, 15 in Bauchi, 14 in Nasarawa, 13 in Ogun, 10 in Plateau, 4 in Oyo, 4 in Sokoto, 4 in Rivers, 3 in Kaduna, 2 in Edo, 2 in Ebonyi, 2 in Ondo, 1 in Enugu, 1 in Imo, 1 in Gombe and 1 in Osun.
The Agency had also as at the time of the release reported 78 new recoveries and 10 fatalities.

Current breakdown is as follows:

Total Confirmed Cases - 3,912

  • The 78 Recoveries were reported as 42 in Lagos, in Kano, 10 in Ogun, 10 in Gombe, 3 in Sokoto, 3 in Oyo, 2 in Edo, 1 in Kwara, 2 in Rivers, 1 in Delta, 2 in Ekiti and 1 in Niger.
  • While the recent 10 deaths were reported as 5 in Kano, 2 in Ogun, 1 in Kaduna, 1 in Sokoto and 1 in Bauchi.
Analysis from the current report from NCDC indicates that Lagos has 448 recovered victims, 40 in Abuja, 30 in Osun, 12 in Edo, 14 in Oyo, 28 in Ogun, 14 in Kaduna, 10 in Akwaibom, 4 in Ekiti, 4 in Rivers, 2 in Enugu, 9 in Kwara, 6 in Bauchi, 6 in Ondo, 20 in Kano, 9 in Katsina, 10 in Gombe, 3 in Delta, 0 in Borno, 1 in Abia, 2 in Niger, 0 in Jigawa, 0 in Gombe, 1 in Anambra, 1 in Imo, 0 in Benue, 4 in Sokoto and 1 in Plateau.

The death toll as reported by NCDC indicates that Lagos has recorded 33 Deaths, 4 in Abuja, 19 in Kano, 9 in Katsina, 4 in Edo, 3 in Delta, 2 in Akwaibom and 14 in Borno, 2 in Oyo, 1 in Ondo, 1 in Ekiti, 4 in Ogun, 2 in Rivers, 4 in Osun, 9 in Sokoto, 2 in Kaduna, 1 in Yobe, 3 in Zamfara, 1 in Nasarawa, 1 in Jigawa and 1 in Bauchi, bringing the total death toll to 117.

The statistical report from NCDC also indicates that there are 1,186 Active cases in Lagos, 292 in FCT, 509 in Kano, 4 in Osun, 43 in Oyo, 51 in Edo, 81 in Ogun, 120 in Katsina, 15 in Kwara, 5 in Akwaibom, 110 in Bauchi, 79 in Kaduna, 11 in Delta, 9 in Ondo, 7 in Ekiti, 8 in Enugu15 in Rivers, 4 in Niger, 82 in Jigawa, 2 in Benue, 0 in Anambra, 128 in Borno, 100 in Gombe, 1 in Abia, 80 in Sokoto, 15 in Adamawa, 14 in Plateau, 62 in Zamfara, 2 in Imo, 15 in Taraba, 18 in Kebbi, 7 in Ebonyi, 5 in Bayelsa, 24 in Nasarawa, 12 in Yobe.

Cross River and Kogi State have remained uninfected since the inception of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nigeria.

  1. The Federal Government had stated that if the number of cases in Nigeria continues to rise, Nigeria may be embarking on a continued lock down. What's your take on this matter?
