Coronavirus: Update at a glance



  • Coronavirus infection touches 181 countries out of 195 countries of the world. Total Number of Death rises to 10,048. Number of Confirmed cases is at 245,922. A good number of 88,465 have recovered around the world. More than 35 Countries in Africa infected.
  • Italy death toll overtakes China's death toll. As at today, total death in Italy is 3,405. Number of Confirmed cases is 41,035. Number of Active case is 33,190 while Number of Recovery is 4,440.
  • China demonstrates giant strides. Out of 80,967 Confirmed cases, 71,150 have recovered. New Cases of the infection have reduced drastically. As at today, only 39 new cases and 3 deaths were recorded. Overal death in more than 2 months is 3,248. This is less than Deaths in Italy in about 3 weeks. Wuhan has closed down most of their isolation Centers. The medical team in Wuhan has received a well deserved accolade for their relentless efforts. China has also solicitated to support other countries in the fight against the war-like COVID-19 Virus.
  • Total Death in USA rises to 217. More 577 New cases confirmed bringing the number of Confirmed cases to 14,366. So far, a total number of 125 have recovered while 14,025 are still active.
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that Banknotes may be encouraging the spread of the novel Coronavirus. WHO advised the use of contactless technologies other than Banknotes.
  • Nigeria confirmed 4 New cases on Thursday as reported by the Lagos State Comissioner of Health, Prof Akin Abayomi during a press conference. This brings the number of Confirmed cases to 12. In his statement, he noted that Nigeria is tracking more 1,300 suspects and advised everyone who has arrived the country lately to self isolate. He noted that one of the cases has not been abroad and as such brings awareness for possible community transmission.
  • The wife of the Nigeria President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has stated that one of her daughters recently arrived from UK and has been asked to Self-Isolate. In her statement through her Twitter handle, she urged all parents and everyone to put hands on deck to ensure prevention of the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
  • Lagos and Ogun State have banned gathering of more than 50 people. This is coming as Argentina, Italy and Spain have embraced complete lock down. 9 Northern Nigerian states have taken to close down schools for 30 days. NYSC responded with immediate posting of Corps members to their various PPAs and advised them to be at alert and utilize all necessary measures to ensure maximum protection.
  • The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has given directives for the closure of 104 Unity Schools across Nigeria taking effect from March 26, 2020.
  • Nigeria will be placing complete travel ban on UK, USA, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany, South Korea, France, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Iran effectively from 21 March, 2020.
  • The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has ordered the indefinite suspension of the weekly Community Development Service (CDS) following the COVID-19 prevention measures.
  • Mountain of Fire Ministry (MFM) has suspended church activities in Lagos and Ogun and solicited for  pray-at-home and online church services.
  • The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has suspended enrolment in Lagos, Katsina, Ekiti, Ogun and Anambra as part of preventive measure against the spread of Coronavirus.
