President Tinubu led Administration prepares to kickstart Fuel Subsidy Removal Grants disbursement


The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Administration is concluding plans to commence the disbursement of Fuel Subsidy Removal Grants to Nigerians in order to cushion the effect of Fuel Subsidy Removal in the Country.

Tinubu had in a letter on Wednesday requested the National Assembly to amend the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to accommodate his request of N500 Billion for the amelioration of the hardship caused by the Fuel Subsidy Removal. 

The House of Represntatives on Thursday accorded Tinubu's request utmost attention, and approved the N500 Billion Request.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, also on Thursday confirmed to have received a similar letter from President Tinubu asking the Senate to grant him the permission to remove N500 billion from the 2022 supplementary appropriation law to fund provision of palliatives to Nigerians.

Upon full approval of President Tinubu's Request by the upper chamber, the adminstration will begin the Fuel Subsidy Removal Grants disbursement to indigents and vulnerable Nigerians who have been negetively impacted by the Fuel Subsidy Removal.  

Pesident Tinubu proposed the disbursement of N8,000 to about 12 million households, for a period of six months, under the Fuel Subsidy Removal Grants Programme cordinated under the National Social Safety Nets Programme.

The President also requested the National Assembly to approve the scale up of the National Social Safety Nets Programme (NASSP) as it would have a multiplier effect on about 60 million individuals as a formidable remedy to the effects of the present hardship in the Country.
