Tension heightens as Enumerators and Supervisors Training Date remains indefinite

Tension has heightened among the NPC Enumerators and Supervisors as Date for the Training of these functionaries is yet to be fixed.

Meanwhile, if the 2023 Population and Housing Census goes as planned by the NPC, there is less than two weeks to training the Enumerators and Supervisors in both Building Numbering and Household Listing, and Enumeration of Persons.

Recall that the 2023 Population and Housing Census was earlier slated to commence on 29th March, 2023 and ends on 2nd April, 2023. However, the 2023 General Election prompted the reschedule of the Main Census to 3rd May all through 17th May, 2023.

Recall also that the Enumerators and Supervisors Training has witnessed Five (5) postponements in the past 3 Months which were mainly due to adjustment in the 2023 General Election and reschedule necessitated by internal rearrangement.

Initially, the Enumerators and Supervisors Training was slated to commence on 6th February, 2023 and end on 10th February, 2023.

It was later postponed and rescheduled to commence on 15th March, 2023, and end on 21st March, 2023. This did not materialize.

A new date was fixed, and Training on Household Listing cum Building Numbering was slated to begin on 31st March, 2023 to 6th April, 2023. While Training on Persons Enumeration was scheduled to commence on 25th April, 2023 and end on 29th April, 2023.

Postponement of the Guber/House of Assembly Election resulted in shifting the Enumerators and Supervisors Training Date to 11th April, 2023. As planned then, Training on  Household Listing and Building Numbering was fixed to begin on 11th April, 2023 and end on 17th April, 2023. While Training on Persons Enumeration was scheduled to begin on 25th April, 2023 and end 0n 29th April, 2023.

This was however adjusted to 13th - 19th April, 2023 for Household Listing and Building Numbering, and 26th April, 2023 - 30th April, 2023 for persons Enumeration, as a result of internal rearrangement.

In a recent postponement, the Director of Census, National Population Commission, Mrs Olanipekun Evelyn Arinola, announced that the Enumerators and Supervisors Training has been "postponed indefinitely".

Mrs Arinola stated that the Commision will have to deal with "emerging issues" before fxing a new date for the Enumerators and Supervisors Training.

If the Main Census is to commence on 3rd May, 2023 as scheduled, there is less than 2weeks left to conclude preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census Exercise. One wonders if this period is enough for other activities including the LGA Level Training of the Enumerators and Supervisors.
