Npower Batch C1 September Stipend, Extention or Vote Buying?

The 510,000 Batch C1 Npower beneficiaries recently joined the 490,000 Batch C2 Npower beneficiaries in receiving the N30,000 Stipend as the Management commenced payment of the beneficiaries after a very long wait.

In what was described as a Miracle payment to the Batch C1 Npower Volunteers, the beneficiaries had wondered if the September payment was for the Extention of the Batch C1 Npower Programme or a strategic vote buying.

Recall that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development had in August, 2022 announced the end of the Batch C1 Npower Programme, maintaining that there is no intention to extend the Batch C1 Npower Programme.

The ministry upon announcing the discontinuation of the Batch C1 Npower Programme immediately commenced the shortlisting, screening and engagement of 490,000 Batch C2 Npower beneficiaries, and the introduction of Work Nation Programme for the out-going Batch C1 Beneficiaries.

However, the current Payment of September Stipend to the Batch C1 Npower beneficiaries has raised the curiosity of the beneficiaries, with many wanting to know if the Batch C1 Npower Programme has been extended.

Reacting to the queries of the beneficiaries who had asked if the Payment was meant for Batch C1 Extention, and would mean continuing in their various PPAs, the Npower management advised, "kindly be informed that all Batch C1 are not expected to go back to their PPA. All C1 are to wait for further directives from Npower, Stay Tuned"

Meanwhile, the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS), a department in charge of the Npower programme in the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, has on Friday dispelled a speculation alleging that the sudden commencement of the Npower Stipend Payment was for electoral inducement of the beneficiaries.

"NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC!

"Our attention has been drawn to a false  speculation gaining wide circulation that, the payment of outstanding stipends currently in progress to npower beneficiaries is for electorial inducement to voting for a particular candidate.

"Please note, the above statement is false, misleading, extremely wrong and should be disregarded in entirety. Recall that the payment was suspended months ago as a result of fund diversion case which has been resolved hence the resumption.

"It is also crucial to note that Npower program is one of the NSIP scheme introduced and set up by President Muhammadu Buhari from time memorial for the purpose of lifting millions of youths out of unemployment and poverty. Gladly, this program has been running for years with recorded success and not because of 2023 General elections.

"To this end, beneficiaries are by this post enjoined to proceed to their polling units and vote for any candidate of their choice tomorrow 25th February, 2023."
