NEXIT Loan: Confusion as Minister commences SANEF Agent Training in Abuja

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk has announced that her Ministry has commenced Training of 1,850 beneficiaries selected across the 36 States of the Federation plus FCT.

This is contained in a press statement signed on Thursday by the Minister's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Nneka Ikem Akubueze.

According to the Minister, the 1,850 Youth beneficiaries have been selected across the 36 States plus FCT to be trained as Mobile Money transactions agents under the Shared Agency Network Expansion Facility (SANEF).

Confusion has however trailed the selection of the Youths beneficiaries who would participate in the Programme as there was no mention of NEXIT, NEXIT Loan or exited Npower beneficiaries on the official statement released by the Ministry on Thursday.

Recall that Minister Farouk had stated that among the outlined opportunities for transiting the exited Batch A and B Npower beneficiaries is training 200,000 of the beneficiaries as agents under the under the Shared Agency Network Expansion Facility (SANEF).

Others included engaging 30,000 beneficiaries as geospatial experts and enumerators in the Economic Sustainability Plan’s Mass Agric programme while some would have the option of benefiting from the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) micro-enterprise loans.

Recall also that the Minister had announced that her Ministry would commence training of the exited Npower beneficiaries in October in furtherance to the implementation of the NEXIT Loan Programme.

Till date, no schedule has been released by the ministry in preparation for the said training as a prerequisite for disbursing the NEXIT Loan to the beneficiaries.

In the recent selection of Youths to be trained as Mobile Money Operators under the Shared Agency Network Expansion Facility (SANEF), only 1,850 Youths were selected across the 36 States including the Federal Capital Territory.

The most deafening is that there is no mention of NEXIT, NEXIT Loan, Npower beneficiaries or exited Batch A and B Npower beneficiaries among the selected youths who would participate in the Training.
