N-power: Commencement of Batch C intensified, Backlogs to be cleared this year -Sadiya Umah Farouk

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, in several tweets today disclosed that the Federal Government is concluding all arrangements for the commencement of the 2020 Batch C N-power Program.

"We are concluding arrangement to start the Batch C programme where other young Nigerians will participate. We will continue to work towards a better future for our young people," the Minister stated in a tweet.

The Federal Government had few weeks ago, during the illustration of the President Mohammadu Buhari led administration laudable programs for Nigerian youths, disclosed that the 2020 Batch C N-power Program would commence Next month.

Speaking on the Backlog payment for above 14,000 N-power Beneficiaries whose payment stopped earlier before the official disengagement of the Batch A and B Beneficiaries of the N-power Program, the Minister stated that the payments would be cleared before the end of the year 2020.

"All legitimate claims and those on verified list will be paid before the end of the year."

"We have initiated State verification process with State N-Power Focal Officers. The 14,200 affected beneficiaries will present their NYSC certificates for final verification after which we will present an updated list to OAGF to pay off their 5 months arrears."

"It is possible that the 14,200 beneficiaries used their NYSC allowance bank accounts for N-Power and GIFMIS payment platform picked them for double payment," the Minister stated.

The Humanitarian Affairs Minister however pointed out that the affected beneficiaries whose payment were flagged by the Government Payment system may have been recieving payments from NYSC, used their NYSC accounts for the N-power program or employed in other MDAs.

"The delay in the payment of the arrears arose due to platform migration from NIBSS to GIFMIS by the Office of Accountant General of the Federation in March 2020."

"From the consolidated list of beneficiaries we received from the OAGF in September, the 14,200 beneficiaries with arrears of stipend were flagged for receiving monthly payment from other MDAs, particularly from the NYSC."

"It is possible that the 14,200 beneficiaries used their NYSC allowance bank accounts for N-Power and GIFMIS payment platform picked them for double payment," the Minister furthered.

Stating the impact of the N-power Program, she stressed:

"I am proud to inform Nigerians that 109,000 among the 500,000 beneficiaries have gone to become business owners and some are already employers of labour."

"It is gratifying to note that N-Power achieved one of its core objectives of making beneficiaries self-reliant."

"Let me add that N-Power has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of this country. We salute past beneficiaries for their service to the nation."

The Minister however through the several tweets, did not comment on the progress of the Transition Program after several months of collating requested details from the disengaged 500,000 Batch A and B N-power Beneficiaries by her Ministry in furtherance to the transitioning into MDAs, Federal Government Entrepreneurial Schemes or the Private Sector liaise.
