Breaking: Kwara State N-power and Trader Moni Beneficiaries show Lukewarm attitudes -Kwara State Focal Person

The Kwara State Focal Person for the National Social Investment Program (NSIP), Hajia Bashira Abdulrazaq-Sanusi has on Wednesday disclosed to PUNCH that over 15,000 beneficiaries of the N-power Program in the State were showing lukewarm attitudes to the State government  programme of absorbing them into Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

Recall that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has mandated the State Focal Persons to collate names of the N-power Beneficiaries in their various States who are interested in the transition program as explored by the Ministry.

Hajiya Bashira further disclosed that following the disengegement of the N-power Beneficiaries by the Federal Government in July this year, the State government in a bid to ensure that the beneficiaries in the State were not thrown back to the Labour market, replicated the N-power program codenamed K-Power.

The NSIP State Focal Person lamented that about 10,000 beneficiaries of the Trader Moni program in the State with over N1.3billion disbursed to them are unwilling to repay the loan.

The Trader Moni, one of the Social Investment Programs ,NSIP, aimed at reducing poverty in Nigeria had small traders, artisans and small businesses with less that N10,000 inventory, given the sum of N10,000 free interest  loans, which is upgradable to N300,000 which would be disbursed in stages, upon consistent repayment within every six months of collecting the loan.

"Poor masses are not ready to repay the loan after collection because of the attitude of Nigerians to anything from the government, thinking it is national cake. Also, those that disbursed the money do not have records of beneficiaries like phone numbers and addresses, thus, making it difficult to track them for repayment,” Abdulrazaq-Sanusi said."
