How to register for the N5,000 COVID-19 Rapid Response Cash Transfer

Following the announcement by the Federal Government that millions of Nigerians would benefit from the COVID-19 Rapid Response Registration  Cash Transfer Project and widely broadcast in media such as in Daily Trust https://t.co/mkPw89p5DO?amp=1, a lot of Nigerians have been waiting for the day a portal would open for the registration.

However, the Federal Government in a document titled "Understanding the Rapid Response Register for COVID-19 Cash Transfer" has disclosed that no online Registration would be deployed for the program as it targets basically the Urban and Semi-urban poor who have been pushed to a struggling end by the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

By the way, What is the COVID-19 Rapid Response Register (RRR)?

The Rapid Response Register is an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to identify and document the Urban and Semi-urban poor who have lost their income streams and consequently become poorer from the hash economic impact of COVID-19.

The Register is being built nationwide as an expansion of the existing National Social Safety Nets Project (NASSP) to target those in this category of non-traditional poor in urban and high density locations and/or slums where the Pandamic has affected economic life.

How is the Registration done?

In the document, the Federal Government stated that "to identify Nigerians who have been made poorer in the Urban and Semi-urban areas for Registration, geographical satellite remote sensing technology to locate urban poor Wards and hig-density settlements is deployed."

It added, "Targetting and enrolment of affected individuals will be done using Cellphone Short Message Services (SMS) technology that allows residents of identified communities register to be assisted by following simple steps via USSD codes."

It furthered that the technology approach is integrated with the National Living Standard Survey assessments and will be complimented by existing database of NGOs, local self-help support groups and neighbourhood structures in the communities.

How, how much and how long will the Beneficiaries be Paid?

Mobile Phone Numbers of applicants when validated and deemed eligible for assistance, will be linked to digitised bank accounts to recieve N5,000 monthly Stipend for atleast 6 months.
